Giuseppe Scuzzo, MD, DDS; Kyoto Takemoto, DDS Lingual orthodontics is the only orthodontic technique which is really invisible and permits the patient to have a beautiful smile not only after, but also during treatment and allowing a realistic control of the results. The Light Lingual philosophy with the STb (Scuzzo Takemoto bracket) came to life with the spirit to improve the quality and comfort of orthodontic treatment for the patient, allowing us to reach our maximum occlusal aims, functional and aesthetic, without interfering with the private life of the patient. The STb is a lingual bracket which lets the patient forget he is wearing a fixed appliance, not only when he looks in the mirror but also when he speaks or cleans his teeth. Our Light Lingual philosophy is based on 3 fundamental points:
1. Less Lab Procedures
Apart from improving the orthodontic life of the patient, we want to also improve the orthodontists life, simplifying as much as possible the sophisticated and expensive laboratory procedures, depending on the case difficulties. STb does not need a lab set-up in non
extraction cases. The simplified laboratory procedure offers the possibility to manage the Lab work in your Office, reducing time, work and costs.
The reduced bracket dimension (Fig 1) enables initial full bonding, even on overcrowded cases, with Less bracket interference.
2. Low Friction
The STb lingual bracket is an exclusive bracket design characterized by a friction free system (using light wires) and a low friction system which increases with arch-wire size. Another advantage of the STb is the notable reduced treatment time.
3. Low Forces
The use of very light arch-wires ( .010/.012 NiTi), which express biological forces absolutely compatible with the neuromuscular system, reduces dental stress due to orthodontic movements and discomfort for the patient. The low force mechanics decrease notably the stress of the dental movements and make this appliance reliable not only from a biomechanical but also from a biological
point of view.
This appliance which is really invisible and completely aesthetic, does not require any patient compliance. Its three dimensional control of dental movements permits us to obtain more predictable results in very short time. The STb lingual bracket was developed to obtain the maximum satisfaction for the patient. Its reduced dimension together with its special rounded design, makes it unique from all other lingual brackets for its comfort and easy hygiene maintenance. Clinical studies have evidenced very low and irrelevant speech problems just after the bracket has been mounted, which disappear completely after a few days. The new STb bracket used with the " Light Lingual system " (gentle forces), finally unite in lingual orthodontic treatment the maximum aesthetics and maximum comfort.
