German Overtie: Reduced Chairtime with New Derotation Mechanics
Hoch L., Germany
Review: Geron S
www.lingualnews.com Volume 1, Number 1 - November 2002
A new interesting idea was presented by Dr. Lital Hoch from Germany in the 5th Congress of the European Society of Lingual Orthodontics (ESLO) in Berlin (20-22 June 2002).
The idea is a novel ligature, presented as the "German overtie", The wire is engaged in the tie wing area of the lower incisor's brackets, which is more incisally, and therefore the interbracket distance is increased. Therefore derotation is possible without the additional use of elastic chains. This overtie can be used both with horizontal-slot brackets (Ormco 7th generation) and with vertical slot brackets (new TOP brackets). |

I tried to use the "german overtie " in my practice and with my students, and found it amazingly efficient. I reccomend the readers to use it as well.
Pay attention that the incisal tie wing area of the lower incisors' brackets is located more incisally and labially to the slot, therefore the use of the tie wing area for the main arch in the lower incisors may create intrusion and proclination of the incisors. If it is not desired, a sectional wire for the derotation of incisal area may be used. |
