Lexapro is an antidepressant with the generic name (escitalopram). Lexapro generic is used to treat depression, anxiety and many other mood and mental disorders. Escitalopram treats depression and anxiety by restoring the balance of serotonin which is a natural substance in the brain. Lexapro falls under a class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). Lexapro should not be taking withouth the knowledge of your doctor i.e do not take this medication without doctors administration or practice self medication as lexapro may interact with other medications you have taken in the past or taking presently.
Before your doctor prescribes escitalopram for you, he should be aware of your medical record, your age and other medications you have taken recently and presently. Individuals taking lexapro do experience several side effects like nausea, dizziness, stomach upset, constipation, insomnia, profuse sweating e.t.c. However side effects experienced differs among individuals, if you feel or experienced prolong side effects do not hesitate to inform your doctor.
For lexapro to work effectively, you are required to take the right dosage. Usually the dosage for lexapro is 10mg which is taking once in a day. However, dosage for individuals may differ as weight, sex, age and other factors may determine the dosage for each individual. Your doctor should be able to determine the right dosage for you.
If you are getting the liquid form of lexapro, ensure to use the right spoon to get the right dosage, do not use table spoons as they will not get the right dosage for this medication.
